About Radar McLean

Radar is an international musician since the sixties, a writer, arranger, composer, vocalist, guitar player and a master of steeldrum instruments. In 1972 radar won 1st prize at Madison Square Garden New York in a steeldrum contest in which there were many steeldrum bands. RADAR played at many venues in New York city and New Jersey. He has contributed his talent to several schools in New York and New Jersey by making instruments and consulting Dwight Morrow middle school in Englewood NJ, Red Bank Middle school, NJ White Plains high school- NY Poughkeepsie high school NY, Ockeechobe Steeler and Indiantown Boys and girls steeldrum bands in Florida

RADAR is quite a professional, hard working and very unique -he has traveled to many countries as a soloist to Israel, Hawaii and many states and will go anywhere to do what he loves to do. He sings and plays his steeldrum with great style as he heals the audiences -In 1976 RADAR was awarded the key to the city of Baton Rouge Louisianna together with Clark Terry and Mercer Ellington. He performed at the famous nite clubs in New Orleans and Texas he has performed at Louis Armstrong Municipal Auditorium in NOLA, 7 years from 1976 till 1982 performed at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival also LSU, Tulane and Southern Universities getting great reviews from the local news papers and radio station WWOZ Kool Pasific Jazz festival in 1979 amongst the best.

RADAR has a large repertoire, The Drifters, Jimmy Buffet, Bob Marley and a huge amount of originals they are very very good RADAR lives in the sunshine state- Florida and has been performing all over from the keys all of south florida central and north florida and the King snd Prince resort on St Simon Island Georgia- Jekyl island and many venues RADAR has been performing on Party Cruise Yachts since 1997 also the Major hotels resorts and country clubs. in Orlando He is Performing at the Marriott and Diamond reso.rts if you are interested in steel drum instruments and accessoires contact RADAR and he can teach you the fundamentals.

In Florida, his home he performs at various forums such as concerts, conventions, corporate events, yacht cruise parties, private parties, weddings and picnics.

SOME HIGHLIGHTS

International travels with 30 member Steel Drum Band ( BWIA Sunjets) through the sixties.

In 1972 RADAR made an orchestra of Steel Drums and won FIRST PRIZE at MADISON SQUARE GARDEN, in New York City with his six-member Steel Drum band.

RADAR performed for 7 years at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival from 1976 - 1982 and several nightclubs in New Orleans, Texas and New York


In 1979 RADAR performed at the Kool Pacific Jazz Festival in Honolulu amongst great stars such as Muddy Waters, Ramsey Lewis, Al Jerreau, Herbie Hancock, Dizzy Gillespie and many others.

In 1976 RADAR was awarded honorary citizen and key to the city of Baton Rouge, Louisiana with Mercer Ellington.
